Here area a few items of interest I came across that could be folded into classes or your research resources:
1. The NYT Sunday, Oct. 26 had an interesting article about how more and more museums are incorporating technology into the museum experience. Here’s a link to the article: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/10/26/arts/artsspecial/the-met-and-other-museums-adapt-to-the-digital-age.html?src=me&_r=0
2. I thought this story by Gabriele Oettingen about positive thinking was interesting too. Trying to keep an arts organization thinking positively, while at the same time being realistic, is one of those leadership conundrums an arts manager faces. The article speaks to the tricks our minds can play when we think about what success looks like. http://www.nytimes.com/2014/10/26/opinion/sunday/the-problem-with-positive-thinking.html?partner=rss&emc=rss
3. The Detroit Institute of Art action to increase executive salaries caught the attention of the media in the Detroit area. This brief article could be used to discuss how organizations can stub their PR toe, so to speak. It also could be used to connect to questions about board oversight on executive compensation. It can be a challenge to put a positive spin someone getting a 36% pay increase at an arts organization that has been struggling. http://www.freep.com/story/entertainment/arts/2014/10/17/dia-defends-executive-pay-raises/17428051/
