I came across two postings that I thought would be of interest in discussions pertaining to chapter 8 on leadership and chapter 7 on human resources.
What people wished their leaders knew
It can be real challenge to effectively communicate in the workplace. This posting covers some of the commonly heard complaints made by staff about people they worked for. While the posting is not in the context of an arts and culture organization, all 8 of these items can be readily applied to work situations commonly found in the arts.

Debating the Living Wage Requirements Imposed on Nonprofit Employers
This article from the NP Quarterly website raises some interesting points about the issue of raising the minimum wage. In some cases, nonprofit organizations such as those in the arts have been exempted from complying with the new wage rates. While one would hope arts administrative staff are making more than minimum wage, that doesn’t mean the topic of compensation and benefits shouldn’t be front and center in the budgeting and planning process for arts organizations.
