Here’s a mixed bag of links to explore this week.

International Perspectives

I thought this link from Giannalia Cogliandro at ENCATC about recent meetings in Poland on Cultural Heritage was of interest. Here’s some of the text from the link:

“Cultural Heritage Counts for Europe: Towards a European Index for Cultural Heritage”
“(CHCFE) is a two-year project funded by the EU Culture Programme (2007-2013) that aims to raise greater awareness on the multiple benefits of cultural heritage and present policy recommendations for tapping into heritage’s full potential.”

“On 16 October [2014] in Krakow, Poland, experts from Western and Central Europe, gathered to discuss the four pillars of impact of cultural heritage as part of the European project “Cultural Heritage Counts for Europe: Towards a European Index for Cultural Heritage”. The panel included two members of the CHCFE project: Kate Pugh of the Heritage Alliance (United Kingdom) as well as Joanna Sanetra-Szeliga and Monika Murzyn-Kupisz from the International Cultural Centre (Poland). They were joined by Péter Inkei from the Budapest Observatory (Hungary) and Christian Potiron from Pilsen2015 European Capital of Culture (Czech Republic).”

Compensation Issue – How Much is Too Much?

It is no big secret that working in the not-for-profit sector can present financial challenges when it comes to compensation. When we read about arts organizations paying out big CEO salaries we usually get curious and want to know for whom and how much. As you’ll see in the link to the Aspen Times, questions are being raised about how much the director of the Aspen Arts Museum makes given the size of the museum and its overall operating budget. The article raises some interesting discussion points you could have about board oversight, board compensation committees, how to respond the media scrutiny, and good old fiscal responsibility.
